Rewards and Recognition: Honoring the elegant solution

Posted by Joshua O'Connell

One of my favorite phrases to our team is that there’s always many solutions to a problem, but the key is to find the elegant solution – that one solution that goes a step farther, is a bit cleaner or is just a little simpler for the client.  Those little differences, over the course of a project, can lead to something good becoming great, and something great becoming exemplary.

To encourage this, we established a Rewards and Recognition program to honor those in our staff who are finding those solutions.  Furthermore, nominations come from peers, ensuring that we all spot and recognize those who are aiming for that elegant solution.

Earlier this summer we introduced our May honoree, Emmanuel Etienne, who joined our inaugural honorees in April, Patrick Coleman and Hanam Le.  This summer, we’ve added two more.

For June, we honored Rachel Vasquez, a front-end developer who now has been with us for more than a year.  Rachel’s grown quickly in her role at Pixafy, and has been responsible for quick turnarounds on some complex projects.  She relishes a challenge and likes to dig into new areas, a great mindset for the evolving world of the web.  She’s spent a good chunk of time recently in WordPress, and has become incredibly good at devising a good strategy for merging designs into the CMS.

Max Malov, a software engineer who’s been with Pixafy since January, received a Rewards and Recognition honor in August.  Max has specialized in Magento development since he’s been here, although he’s branched out into other areas such as custom WordPress development.  Max’s insights generally lead to some “wow” moments when his code is complete, giving the client a stellar interface to work in or very simple tools to utilize to get their jobs done.

We’re proud of the work Rachel and Max are doing, and are happy to have them as part of the team!  See photos taken recently with them and their awards in our Facebook Rewards and Recognition album.
