One of the most exciting aspects of web development is that there is a constantly-evolving array of new technologies to explore. From front to back-end, open to closed source, development occurs at an incredible pace, making it necessary for developers to frequently learn, relearn, and adapt to new tools and platforms.

We asked our Pixafy developers to share what part of web development is most exciting to them today:

Kurt Kemple

Kurt:
My favorite part of web development right now is CSS. Since I’m a front-end developer, there is nothing cooler than being able to alter and animate the DOM with CSS. Plus, there are a lot of great layout properties such as flow-box and columns that will speed up development time once they are fully supported.

Rachel Vasquez

Rachel:
Well, this might be expected but I look forward to taking a non-standard site meant for WordPress, meaning a site that isn’t just a blog, and figuring out how to integrate it into WordPress. I feel like I’m building something or solving a puzzle – which, well, I guess I am, but it’s a cool (sometimes frustrating, but mostly rewarding) process. And I always learn a new trick or two with every custom WordPress integration.

I second the CSS suggestion, except I tried SASS about a month ago and it changed my life forever. I will never feel satisfied with normal CSS again, haha!

Pat

Pat:
I agree with both Rachel and Kurt. Web development is like endlessly solving puzzles which makes it fun to see what boundaries we can push to get sites done better and faster each time.

In CSS, I am really having a lot of fun using CSS3 transitions, translations, and key frame animations. It’s fun and exciting to do things with CSS that, until recently, required JavaScript to do.

Speaking of, JavaScript tends to be the most fun part of web development for me. It probably has a lot to do with how I can instantly see the results of functions and scripts without needing to compile anything. Lately, I have been learning some great ways to improve the way I write my code (like truly knowing how to use proper prototyping and tracing/passing scoped variables), which has been exciting.

Simply put, I love what I do, and it’s great to learn this stuff and solve these puzzles with everyone here.

Khalid

Khalid:
My favorite part is when I start reviewing the designs for new projects. When the designs turn out to be something different than a standard website’s, especially if it’s something crazy, it always make me excited to start working on it!

Max

Max:
When Project Manager Eric comes to me and says, “We need a new Magento module…!” 😀
