Reflections on teamwork from a Pixafy Quality Analyst

It’s a little unreal how quickly time flies by. This past Tuesday marked my third month here at Pixafy and I am still bewildered that it’s already been three months. But at the same time, I am astonished that it has only been three months. Why the surprise? The level of unity, loyalty, teamwork, and camaraderie that I have witnessed thus far within the team is quite incredible.

There were nights when some team members burned the midnight oil to ensure the success of a launch. Just last week, quite a handful of us volunteered to help in the move into our new, shiny, absolutely gorgeous office, and stayed until all the desks were cleaned, all the computers were hooked up and functional, and that the new office was ready for use the very next day – even if it meant staying in the new office until midnight to do so.

Since I started working at Pixafy, I have never felt more part of a team than I do here. Until now, I operated as a team of one. At my last job, I was the only QA Analyst. Here at Pixafy, not only am I not the only QA Analyst but I now have a partner (aka Steve Hayman) whom I can learn from – I suppose I consider him my mentor.

I always look for a work environment that fosters growth and this is really a place that lives and breathes it. Some people ask me how long my partner and I have worked together due to our quick rapport and dynamic in the office and are usually surprised when they realize that Steve and I have only been working together for three months! He’s already taught me so much – about data storage and how our Data Center works, basics on automated testing via Selenium IDE – and the fact that he’s always willing to dispense knowledge from that jam-packed brain of his is very much appreciated.

I think what also strikes me in regards to teamwork at Pixafy is the strong cohesion between the members of the different teams. At the moment, we have a number of teams (several of them are Dedicated Teams while the others work on various projects obtained from our numerous clients). Each team works so closely together as one unit, ensuring solid, quality products for our clients. At first it was a bit of a change trying to integrate the QA team into the ongoing projects but fortunately, the end result was a seamless integration with a more streamlined process set in place. It’s a thrilling opportunity for Steve and I to prove ourselves with our contributions and showcase the value of stringent QA practices.
