Zombies and monsters and demons, oh my! The Doom franchise (commercially released in 1995) ushered in the now insanely popular first-person shooter format for PC games. That year, Doom was estimated to be installed on more computers than Windows 95, and was praised for its realistic 3D graphics. It also royally pissed off your parents. Win-win!
