Can you remember a time before computers, the Internet, and smartphones? As a technology company, it’s hard to fathom life without the fundamental tech tools, platforms, and devices our team of expert developers utilize every day to deliver a full range of tech services like eCommerce and hosting solutions to our clients.

But what pieces of technology really made an impact on our lives? From the Commodore 64 to flashing L.A. Lights sneakers, our Pixafy team dishes on the pieces of technology that have been most influential in our lives.

This post is part of a series on revolutionary technology:

Alan Gagnon

Alan:
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was the greatest piece of technology I have ever owned. The NES sparked my interest in gaming and creativity which lead to my interest in how these games were created.  Thank you, Nintendo.

R.I.P. NES  (1983-1995)

Kurt Kemple

Kurt:
I’m gonna say laptops — I could express my inner nerd anywhere!

Rachel Vasquez

Rachel:
Well I’m going to avoid being predictable and extra nerdy by naming my game consoles but I will tell you one piece of technology that I had the privilege of using in college and have since been unable to gain access to ever again: the Cintiq!

It made drawing and doing everything so much easier, smoother and more natural. Learning to use a tablet takes some time since it goes against the natural feel of drawing directly on something versus drawing on something where the image appears somewhere else. The Cintiq brings that back and you can do anything directly on the screen. If you draw and get one of these, your life is over.

Also, L.A. Lights!

Tariq Chaudhry

Tariq:
The Commodore 64. It was the first computer I ever used.  Although I used it mostly to play video games, I also wrote my first computer programs with it in BASIC.

Esther Park

Esther:
The celly-phone. Why? Because I used to take the school bus when I was younger and my after school teachers forgot about me and didn’t pick me up. Left a puny, scrawny me smack dab in the middle of a dangerous neighborhood with no forms of contact. Cellphones saved my life!

Jeff Hucker

Jeff:
What:
Air conditioning
Why: Because of days like today. (Editor’s note: Seriously, it’s really hot today.)

What: Holography
Why: Was always fascinated with fractal geometry and patterns from which a broken piece still contains the whole image.
